Absolutely no-one has pointed out to me that I spelt the name of one of the critics in my post on Literariness and Science-Fictionality. They are of course two of the theatre critics from Tom Stoppard’s play The Real Inspector Hound, and I should have written about Birdbolt and Moan.

Mea culpa!


  1. Ah. When I was reading it at first I thought, “doesn’t he mean Moon and Birdboot? Then I got confused and honestly thought it was a clever literary pun that I was too ill read to understand and so didn’t say anything.

  3. I have very fond memories of playing the part of Moon many years ago. Learning his lines was…..interesting.

  4. Damn, I meant to comment on that at the time. I’d never heard of the text you were talking about, so I presumed that Moon and Birdboot were based on them and that Stoppard had changed the names of one character.
